an ambitious tour of 15 cities in Europe began when a Cultural Presentation of the United States of America Exhibition premiered at the Museé Des Arts Decoratifs (part of the Louvre) in Paris. The following is the opening paragraph from the accompanying catalog:
"Craft Today USA is a celebration
of the handmade in the 1980s. It surveys one of the most vital areas
of creative activity in the visual arts in the United States today.
The artists represented in the exhibition are some of America's
outstanding professionals specializing in clay, fiber, wood, and metal.
They range in experience from those who have been active in the craft
movement for decades to younger, emerging artists. This collection of
there works created since 1980 illustrates the diversity, vitality,
and creativity of American craft today."
-Paul J. Smith, Director Emeritus, American Craft Museum
